The White House, Charlotteville Village, Tobago

The White House, Charlotteville, Tobago

Two double studio apartments are available on the ground floor of this lovely comfortable house in a pretty tropical garden in this fishing village.Charlotteville is at the less developed end of Tobago and is about an hour and a half drive from the airport. The house has lovely views over the village, rainforest and the beautiful Caribbean. Each studio has a queen size double bed with ceiling and standing fans, shower room, small kitchen and an outside terrace with table and chairs. One studio has a sea view and both have rainforest views. There are beautiful forest and sea views from the terraces. The studios are looked after meticulously by a very friendly and helpful local housekeeper. Linen is changed twice a week

The lovely village beach is 5 to 10 minutes walk through the village and idyllic Pirate’s Bay beach which has no buildings roads or cars is an additional 15 to 20 minutes walk along a track or a 5 minute ride in a local fishing boat. The village is interesting and scenic. The local people are mostly fishing people and are laid back and friendly, and there are a few tourists. There are a few small restaurants and bars, two small supermarkets, a fish market and a few local fruit and food stalls. The sea is lovely for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. There is a kayak centre and several diving operators in nearby Speyside Village who will collect clients. There are tropical forests around the house and the area

THINGS TO DO IN CHARLOTTEVILLE AND SURROUNDINGS

SWIMMING AND SNORKELLING AND LAZING ON THE BEACH

The beaches here are all soft beautiful sand.

There is good safe swimming at the Charlotteville Beach - 7 minutes walk.

Here there is a good coral reef where many fish and corals can be seen.

Pirates’ Bay, probably the most beautiful little beach in Tobago is a 20 minute walk along a track from the village or a short boatride with one of the fishermen which can be arranged at the internet café.

You can also go to one of the other lovely beaches in Man’o’war bay by fishing boat from the village.

From Speyside, a ten minute drive from Charlotteville, you can visit little Tobago and go snorkelling and swimming in the bay.

There are many other beautiful beaches within easy driving distance, such as Englishman’s Bay, Castara, Parlatuvier.

KAYAKING

There is a kayak centre in Charlotteville. They can take you on a day trip around Man o’ war bay including visits to beaches, walking in the forest to a waterfall, and picnic on a beach.

SCUBA DIVING

If you stay in Charlotteville there is some of the best scuba diving in the Caribbean within minutes of The White House.

There are excellent dive sites in Charlotteville. There is a dive centre a short walk away in the village as well as 3 dive centres in Speyside which is 10 minutes drive from Charlotteville, but they will collect clients for dive tours.

BIRDWATCHING / ORNITHOLOGY

Tobago is renowned for the variety of beautiful and interesting tropical birds. Many of these can be seen from the White House. A short trip to the Tobago Forest Reserve, to Argyle waterfalls, Little Tobago and other beauty spots gives you access to many other species. You can go alone or take an expert guide.

TENNIS

There is a floodlit tennis court for hire at Blue Waters Hotel in Speyside, 10 minutes drive away. Don’t try this in the daytime as it is too hot.

NIGHT LIFE

Night life is generally quiet in Charlotteville.

There are several interesting places to eat and drink in charming rustic surroundings – see places to eat and drink

There is usually a Party night at the Banana Boat bar on Fridays.

Occasional barbecues with steel band music at the Beach Bar.

Various happenings from time to time in the village like the Fisherman’s festival in March and many others throughout the year.

LIMING

The local evening pastime is meeting people for a chat or lime as the locals call it.

The usual place is on the wall at the seafront where the locals and visitors will be ready for a chat with you
